MONROE, La. – The ULM men's and women's basketball programs kept rolling, and a combined undefeated week earned Majok Deng from the men's team and Alayshia Hunter from the women's squad Warhawk of the Week honors, announced Tuesday.
Deng has led the team in scoring in every game this season and kept it going last week at Northwestern State. The Adelaide, Australia native registered a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the team to an 80-64 victory. Both marks were season highs as he shot 8-11 from the field.
It was the ninth career double-double for the senior which includes last year. Deng has also notched 11 consecutive double-figure scoring games dating back to last season.
Defensively, Deng has played a huge role for ULM in remaining as one of two teams in the nation to not allow the opposition to score 75 points in a single game over the last two years. Deng leads the team with six blocks on the season.
Hunter has fully taken on the role as the team's primary post threat. She didn't start much last year because of All-Sun Belt Sharnice Brooks holding down the fort, but has upped her season points-per-game average to 16.5 and limiting opponents' paint performances tremendously.
The Killeen, Texas product poured in 18 points against LSU-Shreveport and followed it up with 17 points against Dillard – both in wins.
The senior has been very efficient with her shots, hitting 65.7 percent while taking the most of any Sun Belt player currently in the top-15 for field goal percent. Hunter has also done all this with only 22.5 minutes per game this past week. The three-block LSU-S game came after she had three in a contest at LSU just a few days before.
It marked the third career Warhawk of the Week recognition for Deng and the second for Hunter.
