Warhawks down Tigers in Warhawk Classic Finale

MONROE, La. -- ULM scored in each of the first six innings en route to a 7-3 win over Grambling State Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Warhawk Classic Presented by Fieldhouse Bar and Grill.

Grambling State (0-3) and ULM (1-2) traded single runs in each of the first two innings. In the bottom of the third, the Warhawks took their first lead of the game as Keelin Rasch raced home on an Andre Wilson wild pitch. ULM never relinquished the lead en route to the four-run win.

In the fourth, Danny Springer scored as he reached on an error and came around to score when Spencer Hemphill reached thanks to a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt.

An inning later, the Warhawks added a pair of runs as Jacob Stockton tallied a RBI groundout and Springer collected his first homer as a Warhawk to push the ULM lead to 6-2. ULM scored its final run of the game in the sixth as Nathan Pugh delivered a sacrifice fly allowing Cody Stone to score, putting the home team in front, 7-2.

Grambling State set the final tally at 7-3 with a single run in the top of the ninth inning.

ULM was led by Springer and Josh Faciane in Sunday's contest. Springer scored three runs while Faciane finished 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Starter Keegan Curtis (1-0) earned the win in his collegiate debut as he surrendered two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Anthony Herrera, Matthew Reeves and Josh Leone closed out the game on the hill for the Warhawks.

Tiger starter Andre Wilson was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on seven hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Angel Peguero led Grambling State at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort, two RBI and one run.

Following the conclusion of ULM's game against Grambling, the Warhawk Classic Presented by Fieldhouse Bar and Grill All-Classic Team was released. ULM had three representatives on the team: Nathan Pugh, Keelin Rasch and Trey Setzer.

-Matthew Reeves made his Warhawk debut on the mound, he entered in relief to start the seventh.

-Josh Leone made his first relief appearance of 2015, he entered the contest on the hill to start the eighth.

ULM will host Stephen F. Austin on Friday night at 6 p.m. in the first game of a three-game set.
