Warhawks Fall to First Place UALR

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Despite winning the battle of the boards against the Trojans, the ULM women's basketball program dropped a 68-44 decision to UALR on Thursday night in the Jack Stephens Center.

Although UALR (18-3, 11-1 SBC) leads the conference in rebounding margin by averaging eight more rebounds per game than their opponents, ULM (9-12, 5-7 SBC) grabbed 33 rebounds compared to the home team's 30.

The Warhawks shot 52.5 percent in the first half, but the visitors finished the contest at 37.5 percent from the field.

Sharnice Brooks captured her 15th double-figure game of the season as she scored a team-high 11 points.  The senior also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds on the night.

Aundrea Davis led the team in assists with four and chipped in three rebounds.

Alexius Dawn and Taylor Gault led the Trojans with 19 points each.

Brooks hit an early layup to help the Warhawks gain a 2-0 lead in the first minute of the game.

The score was then tied three different times before ULM used a 6-0 run, sparked by a jumper from Christina Gray, to take their largest lead of the half at four as the visitors held a 10-6 advantage with 15:21 left in the period.

The Trojans used a jumper, followed quickly by a three-pointer from Dawn, to gain the lead, but Alayshia Hunter nailed a layup on ULM's next possession to take give the Warhawks a 14-13 advantage with 12:12 remaining before the break.

UALR's Taylor Gault scored a bucket to take the lead back for the home team and Dawn hit another basket from beyond the arc to extend the advantage to four before Chelsea Tieuel and Hunter hit back-to-back layups to draw the score even, 18-18, with 9:00 left in the half.

The Trojans used a 10-4 run to take a six point lead before Brooks sank another shot, cutting the advantage back to four, 28-24, with 3:26 remaining in the half.

The home team went on a 13-4 run at the end of the first half to take a 37-26 advantage into the locker room.

UALR extended the lead to 15 to start the second period, but Davis nailed one from beyond the arc to cut the score to 43-31, Trojans, with 16:29 left in the game.

The home team then used a 17-7 run to end the game as they secured a victory over ULM.

The Warhawks will take the court again on Saturday as they take on Georgia Southern at 3:30 p.m. CT in Hanner Fieldhouse.
