Warhawks Shine in Outdoor Opener at McNeese Cowboy Relays

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The ULM track & field programs kicked off the outdoor season on a high-note as they took third-place overall at the McNeese Cowboys Relays on Saturday at the Cameron Communications Track & Field Complex.

Junior Joey Womack won the javelin with a throw of 61.83m. Womack earned All-Conference Third-Team last season and All-Conference Second-Team two years ago. Sophomore Blaine Armstrong placed seventh in the event with a toss of 56.00.

In the men's shot put, Kyle Weiss earned runner-up with a personal-record toss of 15.31m. Sophomore Jevaughn Shaw placed sixth in the event with a throw of 14.27m. Shaw followed it up with a third-place hurl of 54.17m in the discus, a personal-record, while sophomore Alton Clay Jr. threw for a 48.29 mark, also a personal-record.

The Warhawks had a big showing in the men's 400m hurdles as sophomore Andre Phillips placed third at 54.55 and junior Rondell Coleman fourth at 54.97.

A similar output came in the men's long jump where junior Corey Wesley landed at a mark of 7.46m and sophomore Jemal Parharm Jr. a personal-record 7.36m. In the triple jump, freshman Lebrun Nelson earned sixth-place with a score of 14.20m. The personal-record score won his flight.

Senior Isaac Grieder leaped for a third-place mark of 4.70m in the pole vault. He also competed in the 110m hurdles where he placed eighth and picked up a pair of points at a time of 15.20.

In men's distance running, junior Hillary Kirwa turned in an eighth-place time of 4:03.8 in the 1500m. Freshman Chris Silva finished top-five in his heat in the event at 4:21.12. Sophomore Jonathan Jeffcoat clocked in at a personal-record of 9:21.00 in the 3000m, good for top-15 overall and fourth in his heat.

ULM posted a pair of top-20 finishes in the men's 100m as junior Andrew Tate ran a 10.80 and junior Nigel Cribbs a 10.86. Tate won his heat while Cribbs took second.

ULM also excelled in relays, highlighted by its first-place time of 3:15.68 in the men's 4x400m. The men's 4x200m relay team earned bronze medal at a time of 1:26.65. The 4x800m relay team also took third, clocking in at 7:58.40.

Junior Ke'Andrea Wilson sprinted for a time of 12.16 in the women's 100m to take sixth-place. Junior Brianna Reid also earned sixth-place with a 1:05.01 in the 400m hurdles and won her heat. She was two spots ahead of sophomore Adriunna Brown who timed in at 1:05.72 to grab eighth.

Brown also earned runner-up in the long jump, landing at a mark of 5.94m.

Also in women's jumps, junior Rychlend Martin-Horne placed top-10 with a 1.55m clearance in the high jump. Sophomore Kristin Baudoin set a personal-record in the pole vault, leaping over the bar at 3.20m.

Another runner-up came in the women's discus as sophomore Alexis Gordon launched a personal-record 48.74. She also placed top-10 in the hammer at a mark of 42.15m.

Sophomore Mi'Ca Lowe turned in a top-five performance in the javelin with a hurl of 41.25m.

In the 100m hurdles, junior Ariel Cain stopped the clock at 15.29 to finish top-15.

The women also shined in relays as the 4x200m team was crowned champion at 1:41.21, while the 4x100m team took second at a time of 46.96. The 4x400m relay squad placed third with a time of 3:55.36.

The Warhawks will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Ruston, La., for the Jim Mize Invitational, hosted by Louisiana Tech.
