MONROE, La. – The ULM offense propelled the Warhawks (20-8, 5-2 SBC) to a win in game two to split the doubleheader with Texas State (19-13, 5-3 SBC) and pick up the program's 20th win in the 2015 season.
Senior Alexis Cacioppo picked up three RBI for the Warhawks (20-8, 5-2 SBC) moving herself into fifth place on the Warhawks all-time RBI career leaderboard. Freshamn Cheyanne Lyon picked up two RBI on the day to fuel the Warhawk offense.
Freshman Paige Porter picked up the win for the Warhawks, moving to 8-2 on the season.
Game One (L, 0-9)
Texas State pitching held the lethal Warhawk offense off the board in game one of the conference-play doubleheader, leaving ULM with a lone base runner, as the Bobcats took a 0-9 decision.
Redshirt senior Miyuki Navarrete gave ULM it's lone base runner taking a hit by pitch in the fourth inning.
Sophomore Melanie Coyne made her 11th start of the season going 3.2 innings giving up four hits, five runs and struck out two to take the loss. Coyne moves to 6-4 on the season. Texas State's Randi Rupp picked up the win to move to 13-8.
Senior Jessica Colliver continued her strong season in relief for the Warhawks going 2.1 innings of hitless relief. Colliver allowed a lone walk and struck out three for ULM.
The first two Texas State batters reached base without a hit, error and fielder's choice, and Kortney Koroll brought the runs home with a two-RBI double (0-2 TXST).
The Bobcats used home runs in the second and fourth inning to drive the score to 0-5 Texas State.
Navarrete took a hit by pitch in the bottom of the fourth to give ULM its lone base runner and end the perfect game bid.
Colliver dealt 2.1 inning of scoreless and hitless relief in her 16 appearance on the season, but the Bobcats put up four runs on four hits in the seventh to take game one with a 0-9 final.
Game Two (W, 7-4)
The Warhawk offense dominated in game two to lift ULM to a doubleheader split with Texas State to secure its 20th win of the 2015 season.
Cacioppo led the charge going 2-for-3 with a three-RBI home run, putting the senior at 21 RBI on the season. Cacioppo's career RBI total moved to 113 to move into fifth place in ULM's all-time RBI leaderboard.
Cacioppo jumped 2010-2013 alumna Janel Salanoa who knocked in 111 runs in her career, and she is seven RBI shy of taking fourth place
Lyon added to the Warhawk offense picking up two RBI on the day.
Porter went 2.1 innings giving up four hits and two runs while striking out three Bobcats to secure the win. Porter moved to 8-3 on the year. Kaylee Garner picked up her first loss of the season and moved to 3-1.
Colliver and Coyne combined for 4.2 innings for relief allowing for a bombined two runs on two hits and striking out five.
Texas State led off the first inning with a double to centerfield and manufactured a run with a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly (0-1 Texas State).
The Warhawks answered in the second inning with junior Amye Barre drawing a leadoff walk to jump start the offense. Sophomore Vanessa Garcia executed a sacrifice bunt to move Barre into scoring position.
Junior Faith Bohack drew a walk to put two Warhawks on the bases. Lyon grounded out to second but it was enough to score Barre to lock the game at 1-all.
Sophomore Sidney Coy knocked a bunt single to drive home Bohack and give the Warhawks a 2-1 lead.
After Coy advanced to second on a pass ball and senior Mackenzie Miller reached on a hit by pitch, Navarrete singled to deep short to bring in a third run for ULM.
The Bobcats battled back in the top of third, using one-out single and double to put two runners on board. Texas State used a two-out single through the left side to cut the ULM lead to 3-2.
With a one-out walk from Barre and single from Garcia, the Warhawks would jump ahead to 4-2 in the bottom of third off a single through the left side from Lyon.
Miller led off the fourth inning with an infield single that was followed by a one-out bunt single from sophomore Rochelle Roberts. Both runs scored off a long ball from Alexis Cacioppo to push the Warhawks ahead 7-2.
Back-to-back singles led off the fifth inning for Texas State and the Bobcats earned a run back with a two-out single to cut the lead to 7-3.
Kelli Baker knocked a two-out homer run in the top of the sixth for the Bobcats, but it was not enough as Texas State fell to ULM 7-4.
The Warhawks play its last home game before an eight-game road trip on Wednesday, March 25 as ULM host Central Arkansas at 5 p.m. at the ULM Softball Complex.
