MONROE, La. – Sharnice Brooks collected her 21st double-figure game of the season as the ULM women's basketball team fell 66-61 to Georgia State on Thursday night in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Brooks led the Warhawks (11-17, 7-12) with 14 points, while also contributing five rebounds and a block.
Alayshia Hunter had 12 points, eight rebounds and a steal, while Olivia Countiss chipped in nine points, including nailing 3-of-4 three pointers.
For the eighth time this season, the Warhawks out-rebounded their opponent by double-digits as they grabbed 39 compared to Georgia State's (13-15, 8-11) 28.
Makeba Ponder had 15 points for the Panthers.
Brooks started the scoring off for the evening with a bucket less than 20 seconds into the game before a jumper from Gray gave ULM a 4-0 lead with 16:14 left in the half.
Countiss drained her first triple of the game to give ULM a five-point advantage, but the Panthers hit two three-pointers of their own to take a 14-13 lead with 10:18 before the break.
Daja Chase then sank a basket of her own to regain the lead for ULM. The field goal sparked a 7-0 run for the home team as they took a 20-14 advantage with 8:09 remaining in the half.
After the Panthers cut the lead back to one, Aundrea Davis and Countiss hit back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to give ULM their largest lead of the half at 26-19 with 5:39 left in the half.
After a run by the visiting team, Chase hit two free throws, but Georgia State took a 29-28 advantage into the locker room.
The second half began just like the first, with Brooks nailing a bucket. This was followed by a layup from Chase to increase ULM's lead to 32-29 with 18:16 left in the game.
The Panthers then used a 10-2 stretch to take a five-point lead, but Brooks scored four points in a 7-2 run for the Warhawks to knot the score at 41 with 14:30 remaining.
Georgia State regained the lead, but back-to-back buckets from Brooks and Hunter gave the home team a 49-48 advantage with 7:54 left.
The lead then changed five more times before the Panthers hit a three with 1:43 remaining. Hunter knocked down a bucket to cut Georgia State's lead to 62-61, but the Panthers held on for the victory.
ULM will take the court again on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Fant-Ewing Coliseum as they host Texas State for Senior Day.
