Warhawks Open Sun Belt Play at Appalachian State

MONROE, La. – Coming off the most wins in February in program history, the Warhawks (14-6) look to continue the momentum as ULM opens conference play against Appalachian State in Wingate, N.C.

Due to winter weather threat, the games have been moved from Boone, N.C. to Wingate, N.C. as the series will be played at Wingate University.

On Saturday March 7, the Warhawks take on the Mountaineers (8-7) in a doubleheader matchup with games scheduled at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. CST. The series finale is slated for a 12 p.m. CST start on Sunday, March 8.

Scouting the Opponent

Coming into conference play, the Mountaineers sit with an 8-7 record, picking up a 13-7 win over Austin Peay in their last outing on Saturday, Feb. 28.

Appalachian State has played a loaded early schedule taking losses to two SEC opponents, South Carolina and #14 Auburn.

Series History

This weekend marks the first time in program history that the Warhawks haven taken on Appalachian State on the diamond. The Mountaineers are in their inaugural season with the Sun Belt Conference after moving from the Southern Conference in July.

Leading Off

•ULM battles the newest member of the Sun Belt, Appalachian State, for the fi rst time in program history to open up conference play.

•Since joining the Sun Belt in 2007, the Warhawks are 1- 7 in conference openers and are looking to snap a five-series losing streak in conference opening play. ULM's lone SBC opening series win came in 2009 over North Texas.

•The Warhawks set a new program record for wins in the month of February by picking up 14 victories. This tops the previous record of 13 set by the 2001 squad.

•Eight different players have hit at least one home run for the Warhawks this season (Cacioppo, Roberts, Garcia, Bohack, Coy, Barre, Navarrete and Miller)

•ULM has scored 130 runs as a team this year, good for a tied for second in the Sun Belt. Junior Faith Bohack picked up three RBI on the weekend to move her total to a team-leading 20. With her total, ULM's 109 runs batted in is good for third in the conference

•The Warhawks have swiped 61 bases so far in 2015 and are once pace to top 2014 squad's 137 stolen bases.

Game Rewind

After picking up the most wins in the month of February in program history, the Warhawks (14-6) begin March dropping a 2-4 decision to the Bengals of Idaho State (9-10) in the finale of the Alexis Park Resort Classic at Eller Media Stadium.

Freshman Cheyanne Lyon handle the offensive production for the Warhawks picking up a two-RBI triple, her second of the season. Lyon moves her RBI total to 14 on the year.

Senior Haylie Wilson made the start going four innings, scattering three hits and giving up two runs. Senior Jessica Colliver pitch three innings of relief picking up the loss to move to 3-2 on the season.
