MONROE, La. – The ULM men's basketball program signed two student-athletes, Ramses Sandifer and Wade Martin, to a National Letter of Intent and will join the squad for the 2015-16 season, head coach Keith Richard and his staff announced Wednesday.
“We are very happy to add Ramses and Wade to our program. Both of these young men address needs that will help our team next year. They played against and with high-level competition this year in Prep School. That will benefit them greatly as they make the transition to college basketball next year,” Richard said.
Sandifer, a 6-8 power forward from Arcola, Miss., averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game during his three-year career at St. Joseph's HS (Miss.). He played his senior season at Greater Atlanta Christian School and led the team to the 2A state title after an undefeated season.
This past year, Sandifer played a post-graduate season at Fishburne Military Prep School (Va.). He averaged 8.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting 67 percent from the field and 74 percent from the free throw line.
Sandifer was rated as a three-star recruit by ESPN.com and ranked as the No. 56 power forward in the class of 2015 by ESPN.
“Ramses is going to be a very good college player. He is a major level athlete with the toughness to make plays at the rim,” said Fishburne head coach Ed Huckaby. “ULM will love him.”
Martin, a 6-5 guard from Point Pleasant, W.V., is the all-time leading scorer at Point Pleasant HS. He also is coming off a year at Fishburne where he averaged 12 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 52 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond-the-arc. Martin showed his value on the court by leading the team in minutes played.
“Wade is a terrific two-way player. He is without a doubt one of the hardest working players I've ever coached,” Huckaby said. “He is a terrific shooter that can score the ball.”
Sandifer and Martin were two of 11 players on the roster signing with a Division I school. They helped Fishburne to a 24-10 record and No. 10 National Post Grad Ranking.
The duo both have four years of eligibility at ULM. They join Marcus Washington in the incoming 2015-16 recruiting class.
Washington is a 6-2 wing guard from Clinton, Miss., who led Holmes CC to a 25-7 record and a trip to the Elite 8 in this year's NJCAA National Tournament. Washington averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the field. He also led the North Squad with 21 points in this year's MACJC All-Star game.
