2015 Warhawk Campaign Comes to a Close Saturday

MONROE, La. -- ULM dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader Saturday to visiting Louisiana-Lafayette. With the losses, the Warhawks' season comes to a close as the squad finished outside of the top eight in the Sun Belt Standings.

ULM wraps up the 2015 season with a 25-29 overall record and the squad finished 12-18 in Sun Belt Conference play. UL-L with the two wins is now 34-20 overall and finished the conference season 18-11.

UL-Lafayette 5, ULM 4 (DH Game 1)

UL-L scored the first run of the contest on a solo homer by Evan Powell in the top of the second inning.

ULM answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Spencer Hemphill led off the inning with a single up the middle and moved to second on Jacob Stockton's sacrifice bunt. Dalton Todd followed with a RBI double to center to tie the game and Kodie Tidwell drove in Todd to give the Warhawks a 2-1 advantage.

ULM starter Trey Setzer retired eight straight before the Cajuns were able to put a man on base and eventually even the game at 2-2 after 4 1/2 innings.

The Warhawks regained the lead in the fifth as the squad put two on with one out and Tidwell delivered a RBI single through the left side.

UL-L tied the game with one run in the sixth and then took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning.

ULM was able to close the gap with a single run in the home half of the eighth. Danny Springer drove home Keelin Rasch to bring ULM within one at 5-4. The Warhawks put a man on with one out in the ninth but the club was unable to bring him home as they dropped the contest by one run.

Setzer (6-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts during 6 2/3 innings on the bump. Keegan Curtis closed out the game as he surrendered just one hit with two punchouts in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Rasch led the Warhawks with two hits and one run scored in game one of the twin bill.

UL-L reliever Will Bacon (4-2) earned the win after allowing just one run in 3 1/3 innings of work. Dylan Moore earned his ninth save of the season after tossing 1 1/3 innings of relief.

UL-Lafayette 6, ULM 4 (DH Game 2)

UL-L plated two runs in the first inning as Kyle Clement tripled and Stefan Trosclair followed with a homer to left to put the Cajuns ahead 2-0 after the top of the first.

After three scoreless frames and a pair of lengthy weather delays (1h 16m; 1h 42m) the Warhawks broke through with a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth. With one out, Justin Stawychny and Spencer Hemphill tallied back-to-back singles and the Warhawk pair moved into scoring position thanks to a passed ball. Stawychny was able to trot home on a balk and Hemphill scored on a sac fly to tie the game at 2-2.

An inning later, the Warhawks took a 4-2 lead the home club plated a pair of runs for the second straight inning. After a leadoff single by Kodie Tidwell and Anthony Herrera was hit by a pitch, Keelin Rasch laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the pair into scoring position. Nathan Pugh followed with a two-RBI single to left that gave the Warhawks a two-run advantage.

In the top half of the seventh inning, the visiting Cajuns plated four runs to regain the lead at 6-4. Trosclair drove in a pair with a triple to left center and was able to come home after an errant throw went into the UL-L dugout.

The Warhawks were unable to even the contest over their final three at-bats as their season came to a close.

Pugh led the Warhawks in the finale with two hits and two RBI. ULM relief pitcher Josh Leone (1-4) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on three hits with two walks in two innings of work.

UL-L reliever Colton Lee picked up the win and improved to 2-3. Reagan Bazar earned his first save of the season.
