MONROE, La. – The Warhawks (28-19, 10-11 SBC) tied up the series opener at 3-all, but No.10/11 UL-Lafayette (36-8, 19-3 SBC) battled back to take both games of Saturday's doubleheader at ULM Softball Complex.
Sophomore Vanessa Garcia was the hero of the series opener as she knocked her third homer of the season, a two-RBI shot that temporarily tied up game one with the Cajuns.
Junior Faith Bohack picked up two RBI in game two of the series, and is now one RBI shy from tying and two RBI shy from setting a new ULM single-season record in the category.
Game 1 (L, 3-9)
The Warhawks battled back to tie up the game at 3-all through three innings, but the Cajun offense regain the lead in the fourth to take a 3-9 final in series opener.
Garcia led the Warhawk offense going 1-for-3 in game one with a two-RBI homer, her third home run of the season.
Senior Alexis Cacioppo matched with a 1-for-3 day with an RBI single in the third. Cacioppo moved her career total to 127 and sits four RBI shy of moving into third on ULM's career RBI standings.
Sophomore Melanie Coyne made her 23rd start on the season with a complete game outing, her 12th on the year.
Coyne allowed nine runs off 13 hits while striking out seven Cajun batters in the appearance. Tagged with the loss, Coyne moves to 11-12 on the season.
Jordan Wallace picked up the win for UL-Lafayette to move to 15-4 on the season.
After allowing a two-run home run in the first and a solo homer in the third, the Warhawks battled back to lock the game at 3-all.
Redshirt senior Miyuki Navarrete doubled to left with one out to give the Warhawks a base runner. Cacioppo singled up the middle with two-outs to score Navarrete. Garcia followed with a homer to left field to lock the game at 3-all.
UL-Lafayette answered knocking four homers in the remainder of the game to take the 9-3 decision.
Game 2 (L, 2-20)
The Warhawks scored two inning the bottom of the fifth, but the Cajuns' fourth-inning, offensive outing proved decisive as UL-Lafaytte took game two of the series 2-20.
Bohack knocked a two-RBI single up the middle in the seventh inning to break up the shut-out bid for the Cajuns.
Bohack takes her season RBI total to 45 and is now one RBI from tying and two RBI from setting a new ULM single-season record in the category.
Freshman Paige Porter made the start as she went 3.2 innings allowing nine runs off nine hits while striking out two. Senior Jessica Colliver, sophomore Ashley Dumoulin and senior Haylie Wilson all made relief appearances in the outing.
Porter picked up and moves to 11-5 on the season. Christina Hamilton picked up the win for the Cajuns and moves to 9-2.
The series finale is scheduled for Sunday, May 3 at 12 p.m. Sunday is designated as Senior Day with the Warhawks honoring the 2015 senior class in pre-game festivities.
