MONROE, La. – In observance of Patriot Day and Sept. 11, the ULM men's basketball program visited the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum last Friday as part of its day of service and remembrance.
ULM toured the museum the day before the ULM football program took on Nicholls State on Military Day at Malone Stadium with military-style jerseys.
The basketball team also learned about the history of its mascot, the Warhawk, which holds a local historical connection to the P-40 'Warhawk' airplane flown by General Claire Chennault and the Flying Tigers in World War II. The Warhawk is also symbolic of the red-shouldered hawk, a local predatory bird commonly found nesting along Bayou DeSiard and soaring above ULM's athletic facilities year round.
