MONROE, La. – Sophomore Danielle Sabathe headed in a goal in the 14th minute which proved to be the game-winner for the ULM soccer program in a 1-0 decision over Southern Miss on Friday at the ULM Soccer Complex.

The play started after senior Kelley O'Dwyer won the ball for ULM (5-4-1) in the middle of the field. She fed senior Mariah Mitchell down the left wing who crossed it into the center of the penalty box where Sabathe headed it into the lower left corner.

It marked the first goal of the season for Sabathe, a product of Covington, La., and the second of her career. O'Dwyer picked up her 14th career assist to move into second all-time at ULM. It was the eighth career assist for Mitchell as she moved up to No. 8 all-time in school history.

“This was a fantastic team win for the players and our program. We have been feeling really good about how we've been playing the last few weeks and we feel we are getting better each week,” said ULM head coach Roberto Mazza.

For the game, the Warhawks outshot Southern Miss (2-3-3) 15-14 including a 9-6 tally in shots on goal. ULM also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior Karlea Fehr registered a team-high three shots with two of them on net. Junior Jenna Pillon, sophomore Danielle LaFrance, junior Mary Ashton Lembo and Mitchell all fired a pair of shots.

Lembo played the full 90 minutes at midfield while freshman Kelsey Dazalla played 90 minutes in back.

In net, freshman Brooke-Lynn Scroggins (2-2) earned the win after getting the start and made a pair of saves. Freshman Julia Idalis Gonzalez came in and played almost 67 minutes and made four saves to preserve the clean sheet. Brittany Taylor (2-3-3) took the loss for the Lady Eagles after saving eight shots.

It was the third shutout of the season for the Warhawks as they previously blanked Mississippi Valley State 3-0 and Grambling State 6-0.

The victory also extended ULM's unbeaten streak to six games at home including five wins. It marked the first-ever win for the Warhawks over Southern Miss in four tries.

ULM will play its final non-conference game on Sunday when its hosts Southern at 1:00 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex. The Warhawks are 6-0 all-time against the Jaguars.
