Rallies Fall Short for ULM in Road Loss to Georgia State

Women's Basketball

ATLANTA – The ULM women's basketball team put together several rallies in the second half, but just fell short at the end as they fell 65-52 to Georgia State on Thursday evening.

The Warhawks (6-8, 0-5 SBC) made their first second-half threat midway through the third, right as Georgia State posted its biggest lead of the game. Chelsea Tieuel hit a three-pointer that cut the deficit to 35-23, then Alayshia Hunter picked off the pass at half-court from the press. Tieuel got back to the line and hit one of her shots, then Ashley Aune got a steal on the other end of the court that ultimately led to the senior nailing a jumper for a 35-26 margin.

The Panthers (7-7, 2-3 SBC) staved off the ULM push, going up 42-30 on an Erica Norwood three-pointer with under two minutes to go in the third. Andreanna Jackson drew a blocking foul right before she went for the half-court shot and made her two free-throw attempts that sent ULM into the final stanza with a 44-38 deficit, all after an 18-9 run.

Jackson's two free-throws with 3:56 remaining in the game reduced Georgia State's lead to 50-45, but the Panthers ended the night with a 15-7 run.

There were five ties and one lead change in the first quarter, which ULM ended leading 14-13, with most of the production coming from Emery Wilson's five points. Georgia State came back and outscored the Warhawks 14-4 in the second for a 27-18 halftime advantage.

ULM will make its next trek south to Statesboro for a 1:30 p.m. CT tilt with the Georgia Southern Eagles. That game will also air on ESPN3 and 1680 AM.
