MONROE, La. – The weekly awards continued to pile on for senior Majok Deng of the ULM men's basketball program when it was announced he was selected as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Player of the Week on Tuesday.
It marked the fourth weekly award in the past two days for Deng as he was also selected Sun Belt Conference Student-Athlete the Week, College Sports Madness SBC Player of the Week and Warhawk Male of the Week.
Deng's weekly-award total now rises to six on the season as he's a two-time Louisiana Player of the Week, two-time CSM Player of the Week, once SBC Student-Athlete of the Week and one National Mid-Major Player of the Week.
As a team, the Warhawks have now won nine weekly awards as senior Justin Roberson was named both SBC Student-Athlete of the Week and Louisiana Player of the Week on Jan. 25, and junior Nick Coppola was selected CSM Player of the Week on Feb. 1.
Deng averaged 25.0 points per game in a 2-0 weekend for the Warhawks. He got it started with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists as ULM defeated first-place Little Rock, 86-82. The Trojans entered the game with the best record in the nation at 21-2. Little Rock was also ranked No. 2 in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Top-25 Poll.
Deng followed it up with a 27-point outing against Arkansas State and also grabbed six more rebounds. The senior led all scorers in the game and guided the Warhawks to a 78-73 victory in overtime.
The Adelaide, Australia native helped keep ULM undefeated at home with an 11-0 record at Fant-Ewing Coliseum and 8-0 in conference play.
Deng now leads the Sun Belt Conference in scoring and ranks top-35 in the country with 19.9 points per game. He's scored at least 20 points 10 times this year and has tallied at least 13 points in 17 of his last 18 appearances.
Deng and the Warhawks will look to keep rolling this weekend when they travel to Texas State for a 7:30 p.m. tip in San Marcos, Texas.
