HAMMOND, La. -- ULM was unable to overcome an early deficit as it fell, 8-2, to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
After scoring the game's only runs in the eighth on Friday night, Southeastern (2-0) plated a pair in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Lions tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the second inning to extend their lead, 6-0.
The Warhawks (0-2) were able to break through with their first run of the contest in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, second baseman Anthony Herrera connected on a solo homer over the wall in left field.
Southeastern added a single run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo Ryan Byers.
ULM scratched across one run in the top of the seventh as Dalton Todd, who drew a walk to get on base, was able to score when Nathan Reynolds reached on a fielding error by second baseman Taylor Schwaner.
In the bottom of the seventh, Schwaner drove in a run as Southeastern set the final tally at 8-2.
Warhawk starting pitcher Josh Leone was tagged with the loss after surrendering six runs (all earned) on seven hits and two walks in 1.2 innings of work.
Southeastern's Mac Sceroler earned the win after allowing one earned run on one hit and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings of work.

- Anthony Herrera's solo homer was the first of his collegiate career. Herrera finished the game with two hits, one run and one RBI.
- Nathan Reynolds drove in his first run as a Warhawk in Saturday's contest.
- Dalton Todd reached base all four times against the Lions as he walked three times and collected one hit... He is the first Warhawk to draw three base on balls in a single contest since Kodie Tidwell walked three times at Georgia Southern on April 26, 2015.
- Kyle Schimpf entered the game in the ninth as a pinch hitter and registered a hit in his first
- Three relief pitchers made their ULM debuts on Saturday as Trey Auger, Chase Cater and Tyler Schwaner all saw action against the Lions.
