CONWAY, Ark. – Freshman Casey Waterman threw her first complete game and earned her second win of the season as the ULM softball squad defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 14-2 at the UCA Invitational inside Farris Field.
Waterman allowed just two hits during her shortened five-inning outing due to the eight-run rule.
The Warhawks (9-3) scored early and often on the Lady Lions (4-7), scratching three runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Faith Bohack hit an RBI double to score junior Rochelle Roberts, and junior McKinley Marks plated Bohack and freshman Sydney McKay on a single to right center.
ULM's offense then exploded for six runs in the top of the second. Sophomore Cheyanne Lyon scored on a passed ball which walked Roberts, and Bohack smacked her second double of the day to right center, driving in Roberts and sophomore catcher Sam Agamaite.
Bohack later scored on a UAPB error and McKay reached home on a Vanessa Garcia single. Marks, who was walked earlier in the inning, advanced for a run after Lyon was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. ULM held a 9-0 advantage after the first two innings.
Marks notched three more RBIs in the top of the third when she pulled her third home run of the season over the right field fence, giving the Warhawks a 12-0 advantage.
Freshman Megan Shaw got in on the action in the top of the fourth when she drove in two runs on a two-out double to center field to widen the gap to 14-0.
The Lady Lions scored two unearned runs on Waterman on two hits and two errors in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Roberts extended her hitting streak to eight games on a bunt single in the top of the first. Marks tied a ULM season high with five RBIs on two hits. Bohack and McKay each scored three runs.
The Warhawks return to action tomorrow as they face Middle Tennessee State at 9 a.m. and then Belmont on a 1:30 p.m. first pitch with both games at Farris Field.
