MONROE, La. – The bats were hot this past weekend for the ULM baseball and softball programs as Cade Stone was named Warhawk Male of the Week and Rochelle Roberts repeated as Warhawk Female of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Stone, an outfielder, had a monster weekend at the plate as he finished with a .643 batting average (9-for-14) with three extra base hits (two doubles, one homer), five runs scored and five RBI. He also drew a pair of walks and laid down a successful sacrifice bunt against Western Carolina.
In game one, Stone notched three hits including a double with two runs scored and one RBI as ULM picked up an 11-6 win in the opener in Cullowhee, N.C. Game two saw the junior finish 2-for-3 at the plate and tally a pair of walks against the Catamounts.
In Sunday's series clinching win against Western Carolina, Stone recorded his fourth straight multiple hit game as he recorded four hits as well as three runs and three RBI in the 16-10 slugfest. On the season, Stone is batting .429 with seven RBI and six runs scored through the first six games of 2016.
Roberts, a left fielder, hit .769 (10-13) thru four games during ULM's 3-1 weekend at the UCA Invite. She extended her hitting streak to 11 and reached base streak to 14, posting a .786 on-base percentage and 1.154 slugging percentage during the four-game stretch.
The junior fell a homer short of the cycle versus Middle Tennessee State, notching her second four-hit performance of the season. The Vacaville, Calif., native ranks atop the Sun Belt Conference in batting average (.617), on-base percentage (.673), runs scored (26), stolen bases (18) and triples (4).
Roberts earned her fourth career Warhawk of the Week accolade. She becomes the fourth repeat-champion in 2015-16 along with Hope Pawlik, Majok Deng and Alayshia Hunter.
