BOONE, N.C. – The ULM softball squad is Boone-bound after heavy and persistent rains pushed the Warhawks conference opener to Appalachian State's home venue, Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
The weekend series will feature a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and will conclude with an 11 a.m. game Sunday.
The Warhawks (12-9) finished 1-4 last weekend at the No. 2 Alabama-hosted Crimson Classic. The Warhawks started the weekend with a 6-0 victory over DePaul and followed with losses to the Blue Demons, North Dakota State and the Crimson Tide twice.
Junior Rochelle Roberts had another productive weekend at the plate, batting a team-best .467 with a double, a homer and two RBIs and went 3-4 in stolen bases. Roberts is now hitting .563 this season and is 21-22 in stolen bases. She recorded her fourth three-hit game this season in the March 4 win over DePaul and has 10 multiple-hit performances this season. The Vacaville, Calif. native has a hit in 18 of 21 games this season.
ULM leads the Sun Belt in stolen bases per game (3.0) and triples per game (.5), both marks rank fifth in the nation.
Junior pitcher Melanie Coyne (8-6, 3.04 ERA) allowed five runs while limiting Alabama to just three hits in the final four innings of ULM's 5-0 defeat on March 6. She has the second-most innings pitched in the SBC, already logging 76 innings.
The Mountaineers (4-17) are coming off of back-to-back losses in a doubleheader versus UNCG. App State's four wins this season have come against Campbell, Canisius, Marshall and Rider.
