Warhawks Drop Series Finale to Bobcats

SAN MARCOS, Texas – ULM held a 5-4 lead going into the sixth inning, but Texas State scored the final three runs of the game as it claimed a 7-5 win in the series finale at Bobcat Ballpark.

Texas State (12-4, 3-0 Sun Belt) got things going with a pair runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Bobcats added a single run in the second to take a 3-0 lead.

ULM (6-8, 0-3 SBC) responded with three runs, all with two outs, in the bottom of the second to even the game at three runs apiece. Cade Stone drew a bases loaded walk and Nathan Reynolds was hit by a pitch with the bases full to pull the Warhawks within one run. Spencer Hemphill reached on an error at third base, allowing Blake Buckman to score and even the contest.

In the fourth, Texas State regained the lead, 4-3, on a RBI single to center field by Jonathon Ortega.

ULM took a 5-4 lead as Reynolds and Hemphill tallied back-to-back RBI doubles with two outs in the home half of the fourth.

The Bobcats tied the game on a bases loaded walk in the sixth. They took a 6-5 lead on a Granger Studdard RBI single to left field in the top of the eighth and concluded scoring as sacrifice fly by Jaylen Hubbard set the final tally at 7-5.

Keller Bradford (1-1) was tagged with the loss after he surrendered his first run of his Warhawk career in the eighth.

Bobcat reliever Cory Geisler earned the win and Pasquale Mazzoccoli earned his third save of 2016.

Diamond Notes…
- Keegan Curtis made his first start on the mound of 2016.
- Keller Bradford's scoreless streak ended at 16.0 innings as Texas State pushed one run across in the eighth. Sunday's contest was Bradford's 10th appearance of 2016.
- Nathan Reynolds finished with two hits, two RBI and one run in the series finale.
- All five of ULM's runs on Sunday game with two outs.
- ULM drew a total of nine walks in the game including three by Cade Stone and two by Spencer Hemphill.

ULM will travel to Lake Charles, La., for a pair of midweek games against McNeese State beginning Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
