MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team will play its first home game since Feb. 14 tomorrow against Northwestern State at 6 p.m. inside ULM Softball Complex.
“They are a great team and are very well-coached,” ULM head softball coach Corey Lyon said. Coach (Donald) Pickett does a great job. They've got a big win this year already over Oklahoma State. Northwestern State will be a great opponent.”
The Warhawks (14-14, 2-4 SBC) are currently on a five-game skid and dropped all three games at South Alabama this past weekend. Junior Rochelle Roberts and sophomore Megan Long each batted .500 during the three-game stretch while junior Sidney Coy drove in a team-best two runs.
ULM leads the Sun Belt in triples and stolen bases as Roberts spearheads the conference in hits (47), triples (5) and is tied for first with 35 runs scored. She also boasts the second-highest batting average (.534) and on-base percentage (.577) in the SBC. Senior Amye Barre has been hit-by-pitch nine times this season which also ranks atop the SBC.
The Lady Demons are 18-9 and 3-3 in the Southland Conference. Similarly to Roberts, NSU has a huge threat at the top of its lineup in junior lefty Kellye Kincannon, who leads the Lady Demons in batting average (.402), RBIs (23) and home runs (6).
“The biggest thing is, we are going to have to get everyone out around (Kincannon),” Lyon said. “If she's getting hits and getting on base, as long as nobody else is getting on base we can minimize the damage and not let her beat us.”
