Home Runs Down Softball in Georgia Southern Doubleheader

Softball

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team dropped two games Saturday to Georgia Southern inside ULM Softball Complex.

The Eagles (20-16, 6-2 SBC) hit four home runs, two in each game, which helped claim the victories. The Warhawks (17-20, 3-8 SBC) were highlighted by freshman Sydney McKay who had four hits in seven at bats and senior Amye Barre and sophomore Cheyanne Lyon who each hit homers.

GS 9, ULM 4

A ULM error in the first costed two runs. Sophomore Cheyanne Lyon responded with a towering solo home run to right in the second to make it 2-1. GS catcher AJ Hamilton hit a three-run homer to center in the top of the third and senior Amye Barre recorded an RBI groundout in the bottom half to bring the score to 5-2 in the Eagles' favor.

GS scored an insurance run in each of the final four innings before Barre broke through with a two-run homer to left field in the seventh as the Warhawks fell 9-4. Junior Melanie Coyne (11-13) took the loss after allowing nine runs on 12 hits, striking out and walking four. Freshman Katlynn Kaminski notched a scoreless frame with a strikeout. Freshman Sydney McKay earned a team-high three hits.

GS 6, ULM 1

Similarly to game one, a ULM error proved costly as GS plated three unearned runs in the top of the second on one swing, a three-run home run. Morgan Robinson added another in the third on a solo shot to make it 4-0.

The Warhawks scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth as junior McKinley Marks walked with the bases loaded. The Eagles scored another run in the fifth on a Robinson single and in the sixth on a throwing error from Paige Porter.

Porter (3-2) went the distance and allowed just two earned runs on six hits while striking out five. Sophomores Cheyanne Lyon and Hunter Hogan each had two base hits.

The Warhawks look to claim a contest tomorrow in the series finale at noon.
