Softball Prepped for Final Midweek Stretch of Regular Season

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team will begin its final midweek session of the regular season tomorrow in a doubleheader versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff on a 4 p.m. first pitch inside ULM Softball Complex.

The Warhawks (21-26) will then travel to Hattiesburg Wednesday for a single game against Southern Miss at 6 p.m. CST.

ULM fell 4-2 in its most recent game in Ruston against Louisiana Tech.

Junior Melanie Coyne (15-17) pitched her 20th complete game of the season and hit an RBI double that drove in freshman Sydney McKay in the top of the first inning. Coyne has five hits in her last 12 at-bats with two doubles and two RBIs during the three-game hitting streak. Also the workhorse of the pitching staff, Coyne's 190.2 innings pitched ranks first in the SBC.

Junior Vanessa Garcia hit a solo homer as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning against the Lady Techsters. The homer marked Garcia's fourth of the season.

Despite one hit in 11 at-bats during the series at UT Arlington, junior Rochelle Roberts still tops the SBC in batting average (.477), hits (71), runs scored (49) and triples (5) and ranks second in on-base percentage (.529), total bases (106) and stolen bases (34).

UAPB (13-32) took one game at Southern this past weekend, reigning victorious in the series finale 3-2. Series record versus the Lady Lions: 4-0 - ULM bested UAPB 14-2 earlier this season at the UCA Invitational on Feb. 26.

Southern Miss (23-24) has won five of its last eight games including a sweep over Conference-USA foe North Texas. Series record versus the Golden Eagles: 24-13 - Last matchup came in Austin, Texas, where Southern Miss nipped ULM 9-8 on March 1, 2014.
