NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin scored all of its runs in the seventh and eighth innings to ultimately defeat ULM 6-2 on Tuesday night at Jaycees Field.
SFA (20-21) took the lead in the seventh inning. The Lumberjacks got on the board after a passed ball, then added a hit-by-pitch, two singles and a walk in the frame that made it a 4-2 margin. A leadoff homer in the eighth inning by Kyle Thornell padded their advantage.
Cade Stone led the game off with a two-strike hit-by-pitch, then Anthony Herrera followed with a single through the left side. The Warhawks succeeded with consecutive sacrifices, first on a Jacob Stockton bunt and second a Danny Springer fly ball to deep center field, to take a 1-0 lead.
ULM (15-26) went up 2-0 on just the second pitch of the fourth inning. Springer continued his torrid pace from the weekend with a towering home run to left field that easily cleared the fence.
SFA did not reach second base until the seventh inning. The Warhawks had turned a double play and thrown out a base-stealer in that span.
Cole Hendrix went six scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and a walk. Matthew Reeves was charged with the loss. SFA's Eric Polivka got the win after seven innings of work.
