MOBILE, Ala. – The ULM softball team scored two runs on a late rally but fell short to host South Alabama 5-3 Thursday night inside Jaguar Field, eliminating the Warhawks from the SBC Tournament.

The first inning started off rough for the Warhawks (24-34) as shortstop Faith Bohack misplayed the first ball that was hit to her, allowing Emily Messer to reach first. After two walks, a double and single resulted in four unearned runs for the Jags (33-17) during the first frame.

Later in the fourth inning, junior Sidney Coy misjudged a fly ball that later resulted in yet another unearned run to come across on a Stephanie Pilkington sacrifice fly, widening the gap to 5-0.

Senior Amye Barre led off the bottom of the fourth with a double that bounced off the fence in left-center field. She was advanced to third on an error by the first baseman and eventually scored on a double steal to cut into the deficit at 5-1.

Junior Sam Agamaite walked to start the fifth and Coy followed with a beautifully placed bunt single. After freshman Sydney McKay advanced the runners into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt, junior designated player Vanessa Garcia drove them home on a single that ricocheted off the third baseman's glove into the outfield. The Warhawks were able to claw back into the game at 5-3 after five innings of play.

The Jags turned to ace pitcher Devin Brown to start the sixth inning. Brown struck out Coyne before allowing a walk to sophomore Cheyanne Lyon followed by a double off the center-field wall from senior Amye Barre, putting runners on second and third with one out. ULM's rally stalled after sophomore Hunter Hogan struck out and Agamaite popped up to second.

The Warhawks were unable to touch Brown in the final inning, ultimately ending their run in the SBC Tournament. All five of USA's runs were unearned in what proved to be ULM's final game of the season.
