MONROE, La. – Scoring big points for the ULM track & field program over the weekend at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships, senior Andrew Tate and junior Adriunna Brown earned Warhawk Male and Female of the Week awards, respectively, announced Tuesday.
Tate, who was named to the All-Conference Second-Team, was the ULM men's top scorer with 14 points. He aided the team to a top-five finish for the third consecutive year.
A native of Schertz, Texas, Tate missed nearly the entire regular season due to a leg injury. He didn't train for over a month, but came back at the very end of the regular season and it was as if he hadn't missed any time at all.
Tate sprinted for a time of 47.35 in the preliminaries of the 400m on Saturday, and then followed it up with a 46.88 to earn a silver medal in Sunday's finals. He's earned a gold and silver medal in the event the last two years.
Tate closed it out with a bronze medal as a member of the 4x400m relay team. Running alongside seniors Nigel Cribbs and Mark Demus, and freshman Andre Johnson, the team clocked in at a season-best time of 3:12.22.
It marked the third career Warhawk of the Week honor for Tate and first this season.
On the women's side, Brown defended her long jump title by earning the gold for the second year in a row. The All-Conference First-Team honoree set a personal-record of 6.17m, topping her previous best of 6.06m.
The Macon, Ga., product became the first Warhawk to win back-to-back women's long jump titles since Angela Black did it in 1990-91 (Southland Conference).
It was just the first of four events over the weekend for Brown, who followed it up with a fourth-place mark of 12.31m in the triple jump and a fourth-place time of 1:00.18 in the 400m hurdles. The 1:00.18 score was a personal-record and also the second-fastest in school history.
Brown racked up 20 points for women which was the third-most by anyone at the meet. She closed out her busy weekend as a member of the 4x400m relay team that posted a time of 3:52.92.
It marked the fourth Warhawk of the Week honor this season for Brown and the sixth of her career. The six career honors is the second-most by a female in the award's history behind Marcela Araya who won a combined nine times between volleyball and beach volleyball. The all-time leader is Tylor Ongwae who won 10 men's awards.
