NEW ORLEANS – After matching his career high with 12 punch outs against Georgia Southern, ULM's Brayden Bouchey has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. It is the second SBC Pitcher of the Week award for Bouchey, with the other coming on March 28 for his performance against Appalachian State.
Bouchey's path to 12 strikeouts got going early as after issuing a walk, he struck out the next three batters he faced to end the Eagle first. He tallied one strikeout in the second and two more in the third to push his total to six after three innings of action.
He added two strikeouts in each of the next three innings to push his total to 12 on the night, matching his career-high that he recorded versus Appalachian State (March 25).
In the sixth, with two outs, Georgia Southern tallied their lone hit off of the junior righty and the unearned run in the sixth was the only run of the night for the Eagles.
Bouchey's final line against the Eagles was 6.0 innings, one hit, one run (unearned), five walks and 12 strikeouts. The quality start against Georgia Southern was his fifth of the season.
ULM will return to action Tuesday night as the Warhawks begin a five-game stretch over the next six days. The Warhawks will host the Colonels of Nicholls State before playing the next four on the road (Wednesday at Louisiana Tech; Friday – Sunday at Troy).
