LAFAYETTE, La. – Playing in its final doubleheader of the 2016 season, the ULM softball team dropped a pair of games at Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Lamson Park.
The two teams will wrap-up the weekend series and their regular season's tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
Game One – No. 9 UL Lafayette 6, ULM 1
After the two teams traded zeros through the first two frames, the Ragin' Cajuns broke through first in the home half of the third. Shellie Landry tallied two RBI on a single to left center and Kelsey Vincent added a two run homer to put UL Lafayette up, 4-0, after three innings.
The Ragin' Cajuns added two more in the bottom of the fourth on RBI by Haley Hayden and Landry.
ULM scored in the top of the seventh as Amye Barre tallied a homer to right center to set the final tally at 6-1. The homer by Barre was her 10th of the 2016 campaign.
Paige Porter took the loss for the Warhawks after allowing four runs on six hits in four innings in the circle. Porter struck out six Ragin' Cajuns during her 67-pitch outing.
Alex Stewart earned the win for UL Lafayette, while Macey Smith earned the save.
Game Two – No. 9 UL Lafayette 5, ULM 0
ULM threatened in the top of the second as the Warhawks had runners at first and second with no outs (Melanie Coyne – second; Faith Bohack – first). On a groundout by Cheyanne Lyon, the Warhawks had two in scoring position but ULM was unable to push any runs across.
UL Lafayette plated three runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Kara Gremillion, to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Ragin' Cajuns added a single run in the fourth on a solo homer by Aleah Craighton. UL Lafayette set the final tally at 5-0 on a RBI double to right center by Sara Corbello.
Coyne was charged with the loss for ULM as she allowed five runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work.
Stewart earned her second win of the day after tossing all six innings in game two of the doubleheader.
