LAFAYETTE, La. – The ULM softball squad suffered an 8-0 six-inning setback Sunday afternoon against UL Lafayette inside Lamson Park.
The Warhawks' (23-32, 7-17 SBC) lone hit came in the second inning on a bunt single from freshman Sydney McKay. McKay also swiped second, but ULM was unable to touch Alex Stewart (25-4) the rest of the game. Stewart struck out seven batters and walked one during her complete-game victory.
Junior Melanie Coyne (17-21) took the loss for ULM after allowing three earned runs through 3.1 innings of work. ULL scored three runs in the third on a single, a wild pitch and double and added another in the fifth on a solo homer. The Ragin' Cajuns closed out the game in the sixth by scoring four runs on five hits.
ULM will face five-seed Georgia Southern Wednesday at the SBC Tournament in game one which features a 10 a.m. first pitch inside South Alabama's Jaguar Field.
