MONROE, La. – Entering his sophomore season with the ULM men's basketball program in 2016-17, Travis Munnings spent June 19-25 representing the Bahamas national team at the 2016 Centrobasket Championships in Panama.
Munnings helped the Bahamas finish in fifth-place out of 10 Caribbean countries. He recorded a big outing in a 120-77 victory over Nicaragua with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Munnings went five-for-seven from the field and drained six free throws in the contest.
“It was a great experience playing alongside all of my Bohemians as one team. We were trying to represent our country well and I had fun. It was a different style than college ball as it was a lot more physical and a lot less fouls called. We were able to just go out there and play,” said Munnings. “It was an overall great experience and I was able to take a lot from it for this upcoming season.”
A native of Freeport, Bahamas, Munnings saw action in all five games for the national squad. He shot .533 from inside-the-arc in the tournament. It came after he finished top-five in the Sun Belt Conference in field goal percentage with a .503 mark in 2015-16.
“What a great experience for Travis. I know he was very proud to be selected to play on his national team. We are proud of him too,” said ULM head coach Keith Richard.
As a freshman at ULM, the 6-6 forward averaged 7.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and registered 11 double-figure scoring games and three double-doubles. He scored a career-high 22 points at Penn State to go along with his 10 rebounds in the game.
