MONROE, La. – After Monday's practice was cancelled due to lightning, the ULM football team returned to the practice field Tuesday afternoon after a morning filled with classrooms instead of team rooms as the Warhawks balanced class and practice for the first time this fall.
“It was a good day. It got a little slow towards the middle but picked up again at the end,” head coach Matt Viator stated. “All in all it was good out here today. It was the first hot day in a while too.”
The heat and humidity, which had been largely missing the last week of practice, returned to practice as well, with coaches and players joking and laughing about the sun as they opened the afternoon with stretching. For Viator, the return of the heat was welcome, as ULM will undoubtedly face some steamy Saturdays to open the season.
“It was great to get back into the heat. You need this to get ready and prepare for a 60-minute game and we definitely got it today.”
The Warhawks will use this week to transition themselves in several ways, namely to the time adjustment to adding classes to the mix, but also to wind down and close the books on fall camp. ULM will tighten up some loose ends this week from fall camp and will begin to introduce the game plan for Southern towards the end of the week before running a normal in-season practice schedule next week.
The 2016 season kicks off in 11 days on Saturday, September 3 when the Warhawks host Southern University. Single game tickets and parking passes for the game are available by calling 342-HAWK or via this link.
Viator and other Warhawk coaches will be part of the ULM Athletic Department's 'The Pursuit' event on Thursday night inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Information about The Pursuit can be found at ulm.edu/thepursuit.
