The ULM men's basketball program unveiled its 2016-17 schedule which included 13 regular season non-conference games and 18 Sun Belt Conference contests, announcing Tuesday.
The Warhawks schedule features six NCAA tournament teams from last season as well as 11 total teams who competed in post season play last year. The schedule also features the Southland and Southern Conference Champions in the non-conference slate for this year.
“We have put together a very challenging non-conference schedule. We have a talented but somewhat inexperienced team this year who should benefit greatly from the first two months of the season heading into Sun Belt conference play,” said ULM head coach Keith Richard.
ULM opens their season on Nov.11 at 1:00 p.m. in a doubleheader with the Women's Basketball team against Centenary. Following the opener they will begin their play in the Legends Classic.
ULM will play in both the Regional and Subregional Rounds of the tournament, playing at Texas (November 14) and Colorado (November 17), who were both part of the 2016 NCAA Tournament field, before playing a pair of games in Cheney, Washington on November 21 and 22.
The subregional, hosted by Eastern Washington, will feature ULM vs. Seattle and Bryant vs. Eastern Washington on November 21 before the subregional consolation and championship games are played the next night.
Following that opening stretch of games the non-conference schedule continues with a strong stretch of games. Home games include Stephen F. Austin, Jacksonville State, Blue Mountain and Grambling while road games include Chattanooga, Coppin State and VCU which will be a homecoming game for senior guard Nick Coppola who is from Richmond, Va.
In the Non-Conference as well there is a neutral site game in Bossier City, La. where the Warhawks will play Northwestern state in a triple header of area teams playing.
“And I think it's great,” Richard said. “I am very excited about bringing the Warhawks to the Shreveport-Bossier area to play Northwestern. Our alums, supporters, fans and friends from that part of the state get a chance to see us without having to drive to Monroe."
The 18-game Sun Belt schedule features ULM playing Home and Away with eight of the conference teams including: Arkansas Little-Rock, UT-Arlington, UL-Lafayette, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Texas State and Arkansas State. The Warhawks will also play home to South Alabama and Troy while traveling to Appalachian State and new conference mate Coastal Carolina.
Start times for the 2016-17 season of ULM basketball will be released at a later date.
