MONROE, La. – The first practice of the fall for the ULM football team is in the books, an efficient session that topped out right at two hours in length.
“I thought day one was really good. I'm really pleased with how quickly we got back into the routine of practicing the way we taught them to practice in the spring,” head coach Matt Viator stated. “The other thing I was impressed with was, offensively and defensively, we certainly had mistakes since there was a lot of new installation, but it didn't seem as sloppy as a lot of first days are. It was exceptional day. We got a lot done and had a lot of positives.”
Viator expressed that this opening day of practice was one of the best he's seen from his teams in terms of picking up and learning what was being installed. He pushed tempo and pace as the team moved around the practice fields and between drills throughout the one hour and 57 minute practice.
His message to the team before they exited practice was one word – fast. Viator wants his team to think fast on the field – and as you think fast, you will move fast.
The Warhawks will have filled the remainder of their first day of fall practice with team and positional meetings by the time the sun sets and the day closes with a walk through. The second practice of the fall comes Tuesday morning at 8:40 a.m. on the practice fields. Practices are open to the public.
