FROM COACH HILTZ
About the HBU match: This morning we came out sluggish. The desire was there but we were slow physically and mentally. Once we fell behind, there didn't seem to be any fire to try and get it back. It was as if we were swimming upstream against the current and then finally our bodies had nothing left. Honestly, it was a feeble effort and the team knew it.
About the San Jose match: Versus San Jose State we had more life to us. First set we played well but serve receive errors was the difference. Second set was even better. Offense was clicking a bit and our block started to get involved as well. Unfortunately serve receive failed us again in the third set.
What we need to do: In general we have to stop making multiple errors in the same point. We have shown that we can recover from a mis-hit or a bad contact. We have to trust that we can get the point back under control and stop compounding mistakes. We talk about not needing to be perfect. Just better the previous contact a little bit more each time. That's going to always put us in position to compete. We didn't compete today as hard as we should have. We need to learn how to fight for a win when it's there for the taking. Hopefully we can find more energy and desire to fight for a win tomorrow.
