Warhawks Fall to Mavericks Saturday Afternoon

Arlington, Texas -  The ULM women's basketball team suffered a 59-63 loss to UTA in the College Park Center Saturday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference play.

TURNING POINT

The Mavericks took an 18-7 lead after the first quarter and recieved 39 bench points on the way to the win.

NOTABLES

-Alexis Collins posted a team-high 20 points for the Warhawks, shooting 8-of-11 from the floor as well as 4-of-7 from the foul line. The junior also grabbed seven rebounds (six defensive), seven assists and one steal.

-The other Warhawk grabbing double digits was Gabriella Cortez, who finished with 10 points. Cortez shot 4-of-10 from the floor and filled out her stat line with five rebounds (four defensive), one assist and one block.

-The Warhawks shot a nearly identical percentage as the Mavericks in the second have at 57.1 percent (12-21) compared to UTA's 57.6 percent (19-33). ULM finished the game shooting 48.9 percent (22-45) compared to the Mavericks 52.2 percent (36-69).

-UTA's Rebeekah VanDijk posted a game-high 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. VanDijk added seven rebounds (four offensive) in 24 minutes of action.

“This was a tough game for us. I thought that Alexis (Collins) did a great job tonight. Alexis worked hard from beginning to end and ended the game with 20 points, seven assists and matched that with seven rebounds.”

UP NEXT

-The Warhawks will return home next week, hosting Little Rock on Thursday night before welcoming Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon. During this week's games, ULM will join teams from around the Sun Belt Conference in showing their support to Appalachian State women's basketball head coach Angel Elderkin and the Coaches vs. Cancer national initiative.
