Monroe, La. -  The ULM softball team split a pair of games on day two of the Georgia Classic, first with a 10-2 loss to host No. 10 Georgia before a 1-0 win over Northern Kentucky in the team's nightcap.

TURNING POINT

-The Warhawks put two runs on the board against Georgia thanks to Sydney McKay's two-run homer in the third inning. The two runs however, were not enough to match Georgia, who posted four runs in both the first and fifth innings along with single runs in the second and third frames.

-Against Northern Kentucky, the Warhawks scored what proved to be the only run in the game in the first inning as Cheyanne Lyon singled and later crossed the plate on a Northern Kentucky throwing error as ULM held Northern Kentucky to just one hit.

NOTABLES

-Sydney McKay's home run was the Warhawks' only hit against Georgia, as pitcher Paige Porter Murray was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in the opening inning.

-Bailey Thibodeaux finished with two of the Warhawks' six hits against Northern Kentucky. McKay, Lyon, Sami Billeaudeau and Vanessa Garcia added hits in the win as well.

-Melanie Coyne earned her third win of the season with the complete game shutout, striking out eight Northern Kentucky batters and allowing just three baserunners (one hit, one walk, one hit batter).

FROM COACH LYON

“I couldn't have asked for anything more from Melanie (Coyne). She stepped up big when her team needed her (against Northern Kentucky). Proud of the girls for grinding out a tough win.”

UP NEXT

-The Warhawks close out the Georgia Classic with one final game against Northern Kentucky on Sunday morning with a 9:30 CST first pitch.
