Monroe, La. -  The ULM softball team grabbed a 6-1 victory over Northern Kentucky on Sunday morning to finish the weekend at the Georgia Classic with a 2-3 mark.

TURNING POINT

-After Northern Kentucky scored its lone run in the top of the first inning, the Warhawks responded with six runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by Jesse Watts' two-run homer to take the lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

NOTABLES

-The middle of the lineup was busy, led by Bailey Thibodeaux's 3-for-3 day. Sami Billeaudeau and Watts each added one hit as the three combined for all four of ULM's RBI.

-Cheyanne Lyon finished 2-for-3 with a double, while Sydney McKay (double) and Melanie Coyne each had a hit as well.

-Coyne grabbed her fourth win of the season, allowing only three hits, three walks and one run with eight strikeouts in the complete game victory.

FROM COACH LYON

"We had a great first inning to put us out in front and give Melanie a lead to work with. I was glad to see Cheyanne get a few hits today. She has had some bad luck with line drives to people's gloves and Bailey Thibodeaux continued to be hot. Melanie was amazing in the circle today. She is pitching the best of her career right now."

UP NEXT

-The Warhawks return home to Geo-Surfaces Field to take on Northwestern State for the second time this season on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
