Softball Earns Home Win Over Northwestern Wednesday

Monroe, La. -  The ULM softball team secured its second win over Northwestern State this season with a 5-3 victory at Geo-Surfaces Field on Wednesday night.

TURNING POINT

With the game tied at one-all entering the bottom of the third, ULM took the lead on an RBI single off the bat of Vanessa Garcia to bring in Sydney McKay. With bases loaded later in the inning, Melanie Coyne doubled to center field to bring in all three runners and give the Warhawks some cushion.

NOTABLES

-ULM opened the scoring in the bottom of second inning when Garcia walked to open the inning and later scored on a wild pitch. Northwestern tied the game in the top of the third via an RBI triple before the Warhawks exploded for the four runs in the botom of the third inning.

-Northwestern added single runs in the fourth and fifth on solo home runs but would get no closer as ULM closed out the night.

-Coyne finished 2-for-3 on the night with the three-run double. Garcia and Jessie Watts each added one hit apiece as the Warhawks finished with four total hits on the night.

-Coyne earned the win and finished with four strikeouts in her five innings of work before Watts allowed just one hit over the final two innings for the save.               

UP NEXT

The Warhawks will be on the road for the next three weeks starting with the Central Arkansas Tournament this weekend. The team will play Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday afternoon.
