ULM Falls Behind Early; Loses at Central Arkansas, 4-0

Twenty different players saw action for the Warhawks.

CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas soccer team got off to a quick start, scoring two goals in the first 14 minutes and three total in the first half, en route to a 4-0 victory over Louisiana Monroe Friday (Sept. 1) night.

Eight minutes into the game, ULM junior goalkeeper Brooke-Lynn Scroggins left the lineup with an injury and UCA's offense went on the attack.

Senior Stacia Carroll scored the match's first goal on a header from junior Kristen Ricks in the 10th minute. Four minutes later, junior Ashley Smith crossed the ball into the box and freshman Hadley Dickinson deposited it into the left side of the net for a 2-0 lead. The Bears took a 3-0 lead into the half, as senior Dayna Mounie scored on a feed from freshman Lauren Hargus in the 33rd minute.

Smith closed out the scoring in the 74th minute, as Mounie and senior Alex Moore were credited with assists.

UCA (2-3) out-shot the Warhawks, 25-4 (16-4 on shots on goal). ULM recorded all four of its shots on goal in the second half, with junior Shekhinah Wells getting two on net. UCA goalkeepers (junior) Lauren Mercuri, who didn't face a shot on goal in the first half, and (senior) Anna Hughes combined for the shutout.

"We had many of our players (20 different players saw action) get into the match Friday night," ULM head coach Keyton Wheelock said. "As a result, we were able to see a few players really step up and help us build our play.

"We created a few scoring opportunities but need to be more clinical in front of net and in putting our chances away."

Freshman Audrey Pendergraft played nearly 43 minutes in the first half and made seven saves. Scroggins returned to the lineup in the second half and recorded five saves.

"Brooke-Lynn got hurt in the first eight minutes of the match, but it provided Audrey with an opportunity to get her first minutes in goal for us," Wheelock said. "Audrey was prepared and stepped in and made some great saves, and her distribution was on. This was an experience she can build on in the future."

The Warhawks (0-5) return home Sunday, Sept. 3 to face rival Louisiana Tech at 1 p.m.
