MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team fell 2-0 to Jacksonville State at home on Friday, Sept. 8. ULM allowed both goals in the second half of the match after generating multiple chances in the first half.
"In the first half, we were very well organized and stuck to the game plan, but I think we died off in the second half," head coach
Keyton Wheelock said.
Twenty minutes into the second half, JSU (3-2-2) took the advantage off of an own goal for ULM.
"Every goal we give up is a team goal," Wheelock said. "At some point, we lost the ball and gave it to them. It's got to get through 11 players, so we could have switched something from it getting to the back of the net."
With only 18 minutes left in the match, JSU's sophomore forward Danielle Monroe dribbled the ball through the ULM defense and found the far-left corner of the net to make the lead 2-0.
ULM junior goalkeeper Brook-Lynn Scroggins finished the day with five total saves. Meanwhile senior midfielder
Danielle Sabathe led the team with two total shots in 69 minutes of play.
JSU tallied a total of 12 shots in the game, compared to ULM's four. JSU also led in corner kicks, 5-1.
"We have another game before conference play and it's (the offense) going to come," Wheelock said. "At some point, the flood gates are going to open and we're going to score some goals."
The Warhawks (0-7) play their final non-conference match on the road at Southeastern Louisiana Sunday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. ULM opens Sun Belt Conference play with back-to-back road matches at Troy (Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.) and South Alabama (Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.). The Warhawks' first conference home match is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 22 against Georgia State at 4 p.m.
