MONROE, La. – Nothing weighed in favor of the Warhawks today as the ULM soccer team fell to South Alabama 4-0. With the loss, the Warhawks have been eliminated from having a shot at the the Sun Belt tournament.
South Alabama played an aggressive attack against ULM, maintaining possession for most of the first half, allowing them to take shot-after-shot at senior goalkeeper
Brooke-Lynn Scroggins. Scroggins was able to stop seven of the Jaguars nine shots on goal in the first half.
Scroggins and a Jaguar collided early in the second-half and the Warhawks called on
Bre Truscott. Truscott recorded 11 saves, a match-high for saves in a half for the freshman. Together, the 18 saves is a match-high for ULM and the third straight match with double-digit saves.
The Warhawks did see some offensive action, with five total shots and three on goal. Freshmen
Mackenzie Bell and
Camryn Ciaramella each tallied a shot on goal, in addition to sophomore
Alexis Cherry.
ULM trailed for the first time early in the match at the 6:41 mark, with a far goal from Hannah Godfrey. Godfrey release the ball from the right wing about 15 yards passed mid-field to give USA the lead.
Goal two for South Alabama earned Godfrey an assist, after she passed the ball back to the center to Brenna McPartlan, who took her shot straight on from the top of the box.
The final two goal came back-to-back about mid-way through the second half. Camryn Lyster for USA recorded the goal off a long shot from the right sideline about 24 yards out. A Warhawk foul in the box would give South Alabama a penalty kick opportunity, taking and making the goal was Moa Ohman.
The Warhawks were out-cornered 7-0 in the match, marking only the third time this season the team was blanked in corners.
ULM falls to 0-15 on the season and 0-7 in conference play. They will return to the pitch next Friday (Oct. 19) to host Appalachian State at 4:00 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex for Alumni Day during ULM's Homecoming Weekend.
