Griffith Named Second Team All-Louisiana by LSWA

Volleyball

MONROE, La. – ULM volleyball's red-shirt junior Catherine Griffith has been named Second Team All-Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association as announced on Sunday (Dec. 16). Griffith was the only Warhawk to start in all 30 matches this season.

In 2018, Griffith appeared in 103 of the Warhawks' 104 sets.  She led the Warhawks in total attacks (609), attack percentage (.286), kills (2.28 per set, 235 total), solo blocks (28), and points (3.04 per set).

The Raleigh, North Carolina native ranked second for ULM in blocks (100 total, .97 per set), fourth in service aces (14), and had at least four kills in every match, surpassing double-digit kills five times.

Early in the 2018 campaign, Griffith recorded the fifth-best single game attack percentage in conference (.722, vs MVSU) and was selected to the Redhawk Invitational All-Tournament Team.

The second team was made up of three middle blockers in Loyola's Tylar Beckham, Kaitlyn Grice from New Orleans and Catherine Griffith from ULM, along with a pair of outside hitters in Keegan Nelms from McNeese and Desire Neal from Dillard. Senior Channing Burleson held down the second squad, while Xavier setter Eva Le Guillou rounded out the seven-member team.

The teams were voted on by the volleyball media relations members in the state based on school nominations. Voters could not vote for athletes or coaches from their schools. Players were selected on a 12-1 voting scale, while liberos were voted upon in a second category on a 2-1 basis.
