MONROE, La. – The ULM basketball squad's current homestand has been a good one so far.

Daishon Smith scored 23 points as the Warhawks knocked off Nicholls State, 95-68, Tuesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

"We're finally back home and giving the home crowd what they've been waiting for," Smith said. "We're trying to give them reasons to come back and support us when we begin conference."

The Warhawks, who played six of their first seven games away from Monroe, are 4-0 at home this season with Coppin State set to visit ULM on Friday night to wrap up the friendly four-game stretch that includes wins over Grambling State and Stephen F. Austin.

Smith, who made three 3-pointers with five rebounds and four assists, was one of five Warhawks (6-4) in double figures scoring, with Michael Ertel (17), J.D. Williams (15), Tyree White (11) and Travis Munnings (10) helping boost the box score. ULM made 33-of-59 field goals while shooting 55.9 percent overall.

"An offensive performance like that, five guys in double figures, we played really well," ULM head coach Keith Richard said.

Jeremiah Jefferson led Nicholls (5-6) with 13 points but was just 3-of-10 on 3-pointers. The Colonels shot 38.1 percent against ULM and made 16 turnovers.

"I was happy with our team for the most part staying focused on the defensive end and paying attention to the scouting report," Richard said.

The Warhawks enjoyed a dominant first half while shooting 59.3 percent from the field and led by as many as 22 points at the 7:42 mark.

Smith set the scoring pace with 14 first-half points, a breakaway dunk and a pair of 3-pointers. He's regaining his form after missing three games with a hamstring injury.

"His quickness out there tonight was overwhelming, to be honest with you," Richard said. "He hustled and had a couple of steals. That hamstring is getting better and better. This is the player I've seen before. That's a good sign to see him moving like that."

Eight players scored during the first half as ULM took a 49-32 lead into the break. Nicholls shot just 38.9 percent from the floor.

Richard noted the spark White provided off the bench, including a couple of two-handed dunks on swift, attacking post moves.

"We're constantly working with him to catch it and score quick," Richard said. "That's the first time this year where we've seen his quickness scoring at the rim. He's a very good athlete."
