MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team is on the road tomorrow (Mar.28) for a mid-week non-conference match-up against Jackson State. The Warhawks will face the Lady Tigers in a double-header with the first pitch of game one slated for 4 p.m.
The Warhawks (13-13, 3-6) are hoping to claim a few more wins tomorrow in Jackson, before they host Sun Belt conference opponent Coastal Carolina in a two-day three-game weekend series starting on Friday (Mar.30).
ULM is coming off a series loss at Georgia Southern, after dropping the first two games to the Eagles. The Warhawks were able to avoid the sweep with a 7-5 game three win behind the batting power of senior
Rochelle Roberts.
With the help of Roberts and teammate
Sydney McKay, who leads the Sun Belt with 39 total hits, the Warhawks are currently leading the conference with a .326 batting average.
Their team performance at the plate ranks them 18
th in the NCAA, while their 166 runs scored comes in at 13
th among all other division I teams.
While ULM is having their way with opposing pitchers at the plate, they are struggling themselves with keeping other teams from racking up runs of their own.
The Warhawks have allowed 152 runs this season, a conference high. Against Georgia Southern, senior
Paige Murray pitched two complete games, including Sunday's win. Murray is leading the Hawks with a 4.18 ERA and a 6-3 record in the circle.
Jackson State is hosting ULM after suffering a three-game sweep at Texas Southern. The Warhawks will only be the Lady Tiger's second home series of the season, the first of which came with a 2-1 series decision in favor of visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
