MOBILE, Alabama – The ULM softball team fought a hard war in Mobile this weekend, but falling only two-runs short in its attempt to take the series from Sun Belt foe South Alabama. The Warhawks faced the Jaguars in a rubber game on Sunday (Apr.15) and were defeated 3-1 in the contest.
ULM had split the double-header with USA just two days before, falling 2-0 in game one but rallying back for a 13-1 win in game two.
"We had a great revamped energy for game two," said head softball coach
Corey Lyon. "We set the tone for the game early and backed it up with a good defensive show in the field and in the circle."
Game three was a tough battle for the Warhawks, who's lone run came in the second inning off the bat of junior
Brie Wrobel. Wrobel's RBI single through the left-side gave senior
Hunter Hogan the opportunity to score after reaching on a lead-off walk.
Trailing 2-1, ULM did what they could to stop South Alabama's bats, and did an adequate job through the next three innings, keeping the Jaguars scoreless.
Unfortunately, USA earned an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single, and ULM could not answer in the seventh, falling 3-1.
The Warhawks move to 22-17 overall and 9-9 in conference play, they will be back in action on Tuesday (Apr.17) when they host Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m. Fans are encouraged to attend and stick around for the Warhawks annual home run derby following the conclusion of Tuesday's contest
