MONROE, La. – It was a cold day in Monroe, and the bats were just not hot enough for the ULM softball team, as they fell in game one of the three-game home conference series against UT-Arlington in 12-3 fashion. Today's double-header was changed to a single game with game two moved to Sunday because of the inclement weather and field conditions.
UTA scored seven of its 12 runs on home runs, all off the bat of Reagan Wright, who hit three in the six-inning contest.
Paige Murray goes in the book as the losing pitcher for the Warhawks, Murray leads the Sun Belt with the least amount of walks allowed, but struggled to keep the Mavericks from connecting on her pitches long range today.
ULM managed nine hits against UTA's pitching staff composed of JoJo Valencia and Randi Phillips who pitched three innings a piece.
Leading the pack was
Sydney McKay,
Hunter Hogan, and
Brie Wrobel, who each had two hits apiece. Wrobel was one of three Warhawks to hit doubles in the loss.
McKay, Wrobel and junior second baseman
Jaclyn Kresta each contributed an RBI hit for ULM, Kresta with a ground out RBI in the second inning, Wrobel with a solo home run in the sixth, and McKay with an RBI single to left center in the sixth as well.
The Warhawks were only trailing 2-1 headed into the third inning, but the Mavericks posted ten runs over the next four innings to put the Hawks in a tough situation headed into the bottom of the inning.
Wrobel and McKay's RBI hits seemed to be the start of a rally that would put ULM back in the game, but the Warhawks fell short in the attempt and ended the inning with three left on base.
ULM will face UTA on Sunday (Apr.8) in a double-header, with games scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Links to live stats and stream are available at ULMWarhawks.com; fans are encouraged to follow along with the action on Twitter @ULM_Softball.
