2018 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships / Two-Day Results

SAN MARCOS, Texas
– The ULM track and field team moved its total number of Top-10 finishes to 24 in the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships after 14 individuals placed in the Top 10 on Saturday in San Marcos, Texas, on the Texas State campus. Those finishes have put the Warhawks among the top three in the men's team rankings with 36 combined points, trailing only Texas State (48 points) and Arkansas State (41) for top honors, heading into Sunday's finale.

"We had another good day of action at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships," ULM head coach J.D. Malone said. "The only hiccup was Jemal Parharm in the long jump because he had two fouls that would have won it. Our performance in shot put was big for us, as was Micaiah Dendy in the long jump. Kourtni Russell and Levaughn Battick both qualified for the hurdle finals tomorrow, so we will be ready for that."

Brice Chaney was responsible for five Top-10 finishes on Saturday for ULM, the most of any Warhawk, all coming in the decathlon. Chaney's top finish was fifth in the discus, which came by virtue of a 124-feet, 1-inch (37.83 meter) toss. He also finished seventh in the men's 110-meter hurdle race, posting a time of 15.50.

Chaney was ninth in the pole vault with a toss of 12-5 1/2 (3.80m) and crossed the line 10th in the 1500m run in a time of 6:15.36. He placed 10th in the final decathlon standings with 5,930 points.

Austin Walker, who also competed in the decathlon, was the only Warhawk to earn a first-place finish on Saturday after a heave of 178-7 (54.44m) in the javelin. He grabbed the lead on the second toss and held off stiff competition by Nick Seabright (Coastal Carolina) and Oliver Kjeldsen (Texas State).

Walker took home eighth in the discus after a toss of 105-6, while grabbing 10th place in the 110-meter hurdles after finishing the event in a personal-record 16.26. He claimed 12th overall in the decathlon with 5,501 points.

Alton Clay earned his second top-three finish of the conference championships by placing third in the men's shot put with a toss of 55-8 1/2 (16.98m). Clay was one of three Warhawks to place in the Top 10 of the event along with Kyle Weiss (54-8) and Micah Dye (52-9 1/2), who finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

After a foul on his first attempt of the day, Clay quickly moved into the top three with his heave of 55-8 1/2 on the second toss. His third attempt traveled 51-9, but he managed to stave off solid competition from Zach Bolton (Coastal Carolina) and Shaquille Singuineau (UL-Lafayette), who each eclipsed 55-feet.

Parharm narrowly missed the podium with a leap of 24-7, which left him fourth in the long jump. Parharm followed a foul on his first attempt with a jump of 24-3 3/4. Consecutive fouls on his third and fourth attempts were followed by leaps of 24-7 and 24-3 1/2 in succession, but it was not enough to top third-place finisher Isaiah McBride (UT Arlington), who cleared 24-8 1/2.

Teammate Colm Bourke emerged with a 10th-place finish in the men's long jump after traveling 23-2 3/4 (7.08m). Bourke was seventh after his first jump, which measured 22-6 1/4, before enjoying his best leap of the day (23-2 3/4) on the second attempt. Ron Briscoe Jr. (Texas State) and Carter Shell (Arkansas State) were the top two finishers in the long jump.

Dendy was the top women's finisher on Saturday, placing eighth in the long jump with a mark of 18-10 1/2 (5.75 meters). Dendy's best jump of the day came on her third attempt, but it was short of Appalachian State's Chelsey Hargrave, who captured the title on her final leap by traveling a distance of 20-1 3/4.

The Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Sunday, May 13.
