Warhawks Report for Preseason Football Camp

Football
MONROE, La. – Third-year ULM head coach Matt Viator welcomed 110 members of the 2018 team back to campus for dorm check-in, compliance, team and positions meetings on Tuesday, July 31, as the Warhawks opened preseason football camp. The first preseason practice is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 8:40 a.m.

ULM returns 58 lettermen, including 18 starters (nine on offense, seven on defense and two specialists), from last year's team that finished 4-8. The Warhawks, who lost four games by 10 points or less last season, went 4-4 in the Sun Belt Conference to tie for fifth in the final standings.

Following a 6:30 a.m. wake-up call and breakfast on Wednesday, the players will report to Malone Stadium for special teams and position meetings before hitting the field for the first time in helmets, jerseys and shorts.

"We're looking forward to getting back into a practice routine," Viator said. "Most of our players have been here all summer, but tomorrow marks our first hands-on teaching opportunity since the end of spring ball.

"From the outset, it's important that we establish good work habits and a competitive spirit. The focus and a sense of urgency need to be there from the opening day of preseason camp. We have a lot of work to do over the next four weeks, but I believe our players are ready to go."

The Warhawks will practice in shorts for two days and shells for two more days before donning full pads for the first time on Monday, Aug. 6 at 8: 40 a.m.

ULM will kick off the 2018 football season against Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in Malone Stadium.
