ULM Unable to Overcome Southern Miss Defense

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM women's soccer team struggled to stifle the offensive attack of Southern Miss on Sunday (Aug. 19), and after an extended storm delay, fell to the Golden Eagles in a 7-0 decision.

The Warhawks put a stop to 23 of the Golden Eagles' 30 total shots, including seven saves by goalkeeper Brooke-Lynn Scroggins.

ULM was able to hold Southern Miss scoreless for 22 minutes before it managed its first goal at the 22:25 mark, scored by Miah Zuazua and assisted by Stephanie Garcia.

USM netted three goals in the first half, four in the second. On two different occasions did Southern Miss' goals come within less than five minutes of each other. With the Mississippi heat bearing down in Hattiesburg, it was just too much for the Warhawks to recover and defend the next attack.

ULM was only given one opportunity at a corner kick, less than three minutes into the second half. Even after the Warhawks fired off back-to-back attempts at the net, they were unable to break through Southern Miss' defense.

The Warhawks will return to Monroe and face Central Arkansas in their home opener on Friday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex.
