Soccer Opens Home Season with Central Arkansas on Friday

Soccer
MONROE, La. – The ULM women's soccer team is set for its 2018 home opener against Southland member Central Arkansas on Friday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. at the ULM soccer complex. Parking and admission is free for all fans.

The Warhawks will be looking for their first win of the season on Friday, after an opening weekend that included a 2- 1 loss to Jacksonville State (Aug. 17) and a 7-0 shutout by Southern Miss (Aug. 19).

The Sugar Bears of UCA have seen little success on the pitch as well, after a one goal draw against Little Rock (Aug. 17) and a 4-0 shutout at Memphis (Aug. 19). Their lone goal against Little Rock came from junior midfielder Connie Awuku-Darkoh.

Central Arkansas lost two of its top scoring threats from the 2017 season, but looks to make up the difference with Awuku-Darkoh, who transferred to Conway from Surrey United SC in British Columbia.

Freshman Cassidy Wiest has been the only Warhawk to see the back of the net this season, but ULM returns most of its scoring threats from the 2017 season, including Taylor Altieri and Alexis Cherry.

The last time the two teams collided was September of 2017, when the Warhawks fell to the Sugar Bears 4-0 on the road. UCA's defense kept ULM from taking any shots in the first half and despite a second-half push by the Warhawks, ULM was unable to overcome the deficit.

ULM has dropped the last three match-ups to UCA, tying the all-time series at 5-5-1. The Warhawks have not seen a victory against the Sugar Bears since 2014, when ULM defeated UCA in 1-0 fashion in Monroe.

ULM will face Central Arkansas on Friday at 4 p.m. (ET). Links to live stats and video is available at ULMWarhawks.com.
