ULM Falls in Three Sets to Radford

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The ULM volleyball team (2-4) brought its best fight to today's battle against Radford (5-1) at the Redhawk Invitational, but dropped the Sunday match in a 3-0 decision. The Warhawks closed out their time in Missouri with three losses despite 11 hard fought sets.

"We struggled to find out rhythm today," said head volleyball coach Russ Friedland. "Our passing efficiency suffer which effected our entire offense."

ULM's loss against Radford came in straight sets, but the Warhawks lost sets one and three by only three and two points respectively.

"We still saw some small clips of how this team can perform when they are all on top of their game. We're just looking forward to working on how to strong together more of those moments for longer runs through the matches," Friedland said.

Radford's Mallory McKnight led all players with 14 kills and teammate Valerie Gonzalez provided 12 digs defensively for the Lancers.

For the Warhawks, senior Taylor Wood led her team with eight kills, with ULM's other 12 kills coming from Catherine Griffith (5), Kate Blasingame (3), Karlee Wilkerson (3), and Sarah Woods (1). Senior Tara Jenkins earned 11 assists in the loss, while junior Albany Schaffer earned ten digs.

Griffith's performance had her selected to the Redhawk Invitiational All-Tournament team, ULM's second of the season after Wood earned the same honor last weekend at the StarkVegas Classic. "I'm happy for Cat and her achievement this weekend. She was a solid rock for our team throughout the tournament and we're going to continue to look to her for her leadership as we continue to progress and grow throughout the 2018 season."

The Lancers committed 24 errors and only managed five team blocks, compared to the Warhawks 14 errors and eight team blocks, but it was Radford that came out victories after averaging 10 more attacks per set than ULM
